Without much fanfare, Corning last month introduced Gorilla Glass 6. According to the manufacturer, the latest generation of the toughened glass can protect your phone's display from drops of up to 1 meter (3.28 feet) as many as 15 times on average. In addition to keeping the screen on your phone from breaking, the latest version of Gorilla Glass will do a better job at preventing scratch marks from appearing on your handset's screen.

Corning late last week said that the first handsets to take advantage of the improved Gorilla Glass are coming from Oppo. While no specific models were named, the next handsets to be unveiled by the manufacturer will be the Oppo F9 and F9 Pro. Both units could be unwrapped on August 16th, and as we told you last month, Oppo has been teasing what it calls the 'Waterdrop' screen that will be employed on both models. That means that both the Oppo F9 and F9 Pro will sport a small notch at the top of the display that resembles the one found on the Essential Phone. Oppo was also one of the first to use Gorilla Glass 5, which is still found on models like the Oppo Find X and Oppo R15.

"OPPO and Corning have always maintained a close working relationship, which has enabled a superior user experience for consumers through multiple versions of OPPO smartphones. We are excited to be the first to adopt Gorilla Glass 6 on our upcoming smartphone, and we believe that consumers around the globe will enjoy an unprecedented experience."-Andy Wu, vice president, Oppo

The Oppo F9 and F9 Pro will most likely have limited distribution in markets like India and Malaysia, although earlier we told you that the pair could end up offered in the U.K. And that means we are still waiting to see which phone will be the first in the states to feature Gorilla Glass 6.
