Apple has officially denied any knowledge or involvement with the NSA on the alleged backdoor including the iPhone.

In a statement Apple said that it is not aware of the alleged NSA program that is targeting its products including the iPhone. Apple said that it cares about its customers’ privacy and security and its team is working continuously to make its products even more secure.

“Whenever we hear about attempts to undermine Apple’s industry-leading security, we thoroughly investigate and take appropriate steps to protect our customers”, Apple said. “We will continue to use our resources to stay ahead of malicious hackers and defend our customers from security attacks, regardless of who’s behind them.”

Apple’s statement is in response to a leaked document that highlights a certain iPhone spyware program dubbed “DROPOUTJEEP” in 2008. German publication Der Spiegel revealed through its report that once the alleged spyware is installed on any iPhone, NSA had the ability to remotely access the device’s data; activate the iPhone’s microphone or camera; intercept SMS; access contacts; and even locate a user using the cell towers to which the iPhone is connected.

NSA didn’t have anything to add other than “The United States pursues its intelligence mission with care to ensure that innocent users of those same technologies are not affected.”
