Protonmail is with no doubt much securer than gmail. However, I personally chose to stay on gmail, because due to its encryption nature, Protonmail don't allow auto-forwarding of emails... If you have another main email and don't want to log into multiple ones and instead have all auto-forward to one, then I guess gmail would work best for you!
