Duplicate IP flagged on new PAT account, due to VPN usage

Hi Guys,

I have recently donated to Pro Audio Torrents and become a member for the first time. Since I am based in Australia and our Government has just introduced mandatory data retention for all ISP's and Telco's, I am now using a VPN for any session where my torrent client is enabled. Two days into my PAT experience, I received a notice from the mods that I have a duplicate IP and that I had to explain myself or be banned. I did reply to the message and explain why I am using a VPN, and the mod was actually pretty understanding. He gave me a week to get the situation sorted, instead of the usual 3 days before a ban.

My question is, can I use a VPN that provides me with a unique static IP, or am I left with no choice other than using a VPN that protects my privacy, but gets me banned for having a dupe IP?

Sorry if this is a noob question, I am not very familiar with using VPN's.

You were using the VPN for visiting the site too? Did you pay for it? Using private trackers is safe so you don't really need a VPN.

Yeah man I signed up under the VPN IP and yes I am using a paid VPN, through UnoTelly. I already run PeerBlock when connected to my client, and have done for years. Do you think it is safe for me to continue using PAT or any other private tracker with my real IP, even though the Australian Government is actively assisting media companies in pursuing downloaders?

If so, then that will save me the cost of the VPN, but I am a little doubtful. I have been active on public trackers for roughly ten years, without any issues, so I don't want to get into any trouble now!

Maybe that's why you are having trouble.
Sign up with your home ip only, this is for all private trackers.
Once your in send the mods/admin a message about your Aust mandatory data retention troubles.
most trackers will only let you use a dedicated vpn ip.

Thanks CPU, I already told him I can sign into PAT with my AUS IP to prove that I am legit, and have done so already. In future I will only sign up to private trackers from my real IP. Really hope they don't ban me, as this is the main tracker I want to use for my D&B productions.

Forget about peerblock, it's pretty useless. You could visit the site using your IP and download using a seedbox (a VPN would slow you down). You could also post a message on your profile stating your reason for using a VPN. Anyway, you won't get into trouble by using private trackers, especially a not so popular one like PAT.
