Peter Jackson is now planning a new Beatles-related project after the success of Get Back. Get Back was released last year on Disney+ as a three episode documentary series, topping 460 minutes between the three super-sized episodes. Get Back was recently nominated for 5 Emmys.

Following this success, Jackson is cooking up a new Beatles-related project, according to Deadline. The new project would see Jackson working more directly with the last two surviving members of The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. According to Jackson, the new Beatles project will be very different from Get Back.

This new Beatles project has a lot of potential to go in different directions. Get Back cleverly used footage (shot by Michael Lindsay-Hogg) from another Beatles documentary, Let It Be, culling together the highlights from the 57 hours of footage not used in that film. With both that footage and McCartney and Starr on hand, Jackson’s new Beatles project has the potential to take on unique directions and blend different documentary styles. Jackson speaks on his new project, saying:

“I’m talking to The Beatles about another project, something very, very different than Get Back. We’re seeing what the possibilities are, but it’s another project with them. It’s not really a documentary … and that’s all I can really say.”
This Beatles specialization marks a new turn for Jackson’s career. His name is, of course, most synonymous with the Lord of the Rings films, for he directed the original trilogy and all three Hobbit films. Get Back and his upcoming documentary project is a new splash for Jackson into the documentary phase of his career. Based on his brief description, this shift to the Beatles could be an incredibly exciting one. Time will tell as Jackson continues to develop this new Beatles project.
