In conjuncture with The Matrix Resurrections releasing soon, the original Matrix's score is getting a vinyl release this June. Directed by The Wachowski sisters, The Matrix's music was composed by Don Davis, who also composed the score for the original Matrix trilogy. Since then, Davis has been the primary orchestrator for Randy Newman, providing the orchestrations for Toy Story 3, Toy Story 4, and Marriage Story.

The Matrix films follow the story of Neo, who's awakened from the titular Matrix, a simulation of the real world designed by machines to siphon the energy they need from the dormant oblivious human population. The original film's music was defined by a combination of orchestral, choral, and synthesizer elements, to convey a contrapuntal idea, to reflect the themes of duality and reflections that occur in the movie. The Matrix Resurrections will continue these themes by reflecting on Neo's growth throughout the franchise.

Now, Collider reports that Davis' score will be coming to vinyl from the Varèse Sarabande record label. Titled The Matrix: The Complete Edition, the vinyl contains 3 LPs that feature 44 remastered tracks from the original film, as well as an interview with Davis himself, entitled "Making The Matrix." The vinyl will come in a tri-fold jacket featuring the phone booth from the opening sequence of the film, drenched in the iconic neon green that is the cornerstone of The Matrix's aesthetic. The back of the jacket features a track list, and the interior features images from the movie, as well as the aforementioned interview. The vinyl album is available for pre-order now, and will release on June 3, 2022. Check out images of the vinyl below:

Tickets for The Matrix Resurrections are now on sale, before its simultaneous release in theaters and HBO Max on December 22. The new film will be scored by Johnny Klimek and Tyler Tykwer, who scored Sense8 and Cloud Atlas for the Wachowskis. Tykwer also directed parts of Cloud Atlas and is also known for directing the classic German thriller, Run Lola Run.

The Matrix helped rewrite the rules of filmmaking through its innovative action, storytelling, choreography, effects, and music. It was one of the first films to use synthesized sound to create atmosphere, a technique countless films have imitated in the 22 years since its release. Since the ending of the original Matrix trilogy was poorly received, The Matrix Resurrections can serve as redemption for Neo and his friends, and with such a fine legacy already established, the new film is sure to be a thrill to longtime fans and new ones alike.
