streaming from seedbox to plex media server whilst vpn is enabled.

i have my mac set up as PMS, its also the device i ues to search for and download torrent files. if i enable my vpn before i open plex , the remote server on plex shows a red x and wont connect. if i enable plex first the remote server connects instantly and shows green tick with message " fully available outside of home network . if i then enable my vpn the green tick stays in place but devices that connect to my server remotely are immediately unable to do so. so PMS doesnt work when a vpn is enabled. ( my vpn is with PIA/ ). so how will i be able to stream from a seedbox to my PMS given that i will be using a vpn for torrenting etc ?
