    Question Dedicated Servers Questions

Hello, I am interested in getting a dedicated server so it can act as both a seedbox and Plex server. How much knowledge do you need, and in what in order to do this? If I understand correctly - when renting a dedicated server as opposed to a VPS, you are renting a physical computer itself in another location right? So I would be the only user of the HDD and internet connection?

If it is possible to install something like Teamviewer so I can access it and install the necessary apps? I think I will be OK if so, but if you need knowledge of command line interfaces or coding then I am stuck. I have used multiple seedboxes over the years and the performance is fine, now I am more focused on being able to access my automated Plex library remotely at all times. I have used SSH a few times for very basic things but that was supported by a guide from the provider itself.

Anybody here use a dedicated server? I would appreciate any advice. I have been looking at Leaseweb and Hetzner auctions and I am tempted to pull the trigger, just my lazy brain puts me off. If there is a script or something that does all the setup for me then that would be great! Or if you can recommend a resource where I can learn all I need then that would be appreciated also!

Are those offerings really dedicated servers? 30 euro per month if paid yearly is not bad if you're really getting a 10Gbps connection. Hetzner boxes close to that price only offer 1Gbps.

Tbh, 1Gbps is perfectly fine if you're not concerned with racing. It's fine for Plex as well as most 4K streams are less than 100mbps. If you get one with enough storage you can just seed long term and results will be the same. That is what I am doing now, files I downloaded are on Plex, so either way they will keep seeding for a long time.

I will keep looking for good deals, hopefully I will get a decent price on a server with 16TB+ storage

Dedicated servers are worth it and if you dont know how, you can find someone to set it up for you pretty cheap. You can install on it whatever you want and what you said about teamweaver is actually known as remote desktop.
Most dedi servers wont come with desktop environment, but you can install it yourself and then set up remote desktop service. Its relatively easy, but maybe a little bit confusing if you dont know anything about terminal. But as i said, since its easy job, you can find someone on fiverr probably to do it for you for few bucks. Once its ready, you are good to go and you can access its screen and apps as if it was your own computer on front of you.
And yes, you dont share network, you dont share storage, cpu or anything, everything that you get, you get for yourself. If the port is 1Gbps you should get full speeds, while with seedboxes and vps machines, 1Gbps is shared port, meaning you and probably like 10 or so other users are on it, so you dont get full speed.

Renting a dedicated server sounds like a solid plan for your needs. You're spot on - with a dedicated server, you essentially lease an entire physical machine, giving you exclusive access to its resources. While some basic knowledge of command-line interfaces can be handy, many providers offer user-friendly interfaces and support guides. I've had good experiences with eWebGuru for dedicated servers; they offer affordable options and helpful support. Check out their offerings at https://www.ewebguru.com/dedicated-server-hosting.html. Anyway, good luck with your setup.
