What exactly is seedbox and what is it used for?
A seedbox is a private dedicated or semi-dedicated server used to keep your torrents seeding 24/7. It's like a computer with a very good internet connection on which you only use a P2P client.
A lot of the 100mbit servers are actually capped at 3TB or around that (which is pretty huge) although there are plenty of truly unlimited providers.
The main thing is you are basically paying for a slot in a server - what your average Joe Bloggs is getting on there at home internet is nothing in comparison
most feedboxes support either SFTP, FTPS or openVPN. These allow you to connect to the seedbox via an encrypted connection so your ISP cant see what the traffic is. Also the traffic shaping software that some ISP use to throttle P2P traffic can't work as it only sees encrypted traffic. All the can identify is a lot of traffic from you to the seedbox IP. Most seedboxes allow you to either VPN to them or proxy through them so all you web browsing shows you as having the IP address of your seedbox and no one can see your real IP. Take your time when choosing a seed box there are some real crap ones out there that will proably screw up your ratio. Stick with the well known ones like:-
feralhosting.com <-- Needs a little bit of setting up
xirvik.com <-- Good for a beginner
use to use feral hosting was not to bad like said before takes abit of setting up if you are not familiuar with the software, i was paying £10 a month but it all depends how much space you want off course
Great! I guess what I am wondering is, let's say for instance I have an ISP that gives me a line of 20mbps DOWN / 5 mbps UP. Can you appear to download/upload more than those amounts? I have heard if you have a seedbox, you can upload way faster than what you are given.
If you have a seedbox you are not downloading anything your seedbox is doing it for you on a 100mbit line. Then if you want anything you have downloaded on your seedbox you just FTP or HTTP download it to your home computer. The speed you download the files will be up to your connection
Ahh ha. That's what I thought. So, you can set up this seedbox along side your uTorrent? I see how constantly using this dedciated server approach could make insane buffered accounts and crazy ratios. And are there different speeds offered? Or are they all typically the same?
When you get the server or slot most of them let you install whatever software you want like rTorrent or Deluge. Dont forget because the seedbox is usually located overseas etc you have to access it via a WebUI or you can set up your torrent client to act as a "thin client" ie it mirrors what the seedbox is showing.
Most seedbox providers offer 100mbit and 1000mbit (1gbp) plans. Usually hard drive space is lessened if you want the quicker line.
take a look at whatbox.ca, feralhosting.com and varsbox.com for examples of reasonably cheap and easy to use seedboxes
now in feralhosting i have had the 100MB speed that is for 10 euro and i have been somewhat satisfied with it, you only by a slot, also there are the dedicated servers, now how much of a difference in the speed will it be if i get the dedicated server that has 100MB connection compared to the slots with 100MB connection, like will it be a very significant different that i will notice
Dedicated servers are much faster than slots. Dont forget on your slot you are sharing the 100mbit connection with maybe 8 or 9 other people. If they are downloading and seeding a lot of torrents they will reduce your speed.
On a dedicated slot its usually just yourself and maybe one other person sharing the computer - the connection is a lot more responsive and you will often seed to your full potential
which plan have you found better from these:

i am looking for a good upload speed mostly and a cheap prize
and also i can not figure out how to order any of the plans
Good things to know. I may buy a slot. 10 dollars isnt bad to get share 100mbps with people. Hell I wouldnt mind sharing it with 20 people.. Most people don't realize that their upload speed isnt very fast. Mine is 1.2 mbps up. I have seen others up to 2 or 3 mbps up. But, getting a spot on a server and uploading at 10+ mbps is a huge difference.
yea but the upload values vary, it is not guaranteed above 10MB, thats why you dont wanna share it with 20 people
Of course... But, what I am saying is if you pay for a slot(sharing a server) with lets say 10 or 20 people(but not all at the same time) it is still a lot better than your average ISP upload rate they give you. Do you know if it is possible to use uTorrent with feralhosting.com?
Good luck mate
