For me, the last application I installed on Lubuntu 18.04 was a web development bundle, Apache, PHP and MySQL using the command:

In my experience when doing any PHP development locally it's by far easier and quicker to have this setup using that command, as it does most of the setting up for you, if anyone happens to install this after reading this post I'd like to give you a quick tip, one thing you will need to run is:

sudo mysql_secure_installation

This will allow you to configure MySQL, it's not immediately obvious but this command needs to be run as root.
