VLC and media player classic i guess
Stopped looking for alternatives the moment I knew about VLC.
bs player
VLC is the best performer for me with audios BUT I would like an alternative because it's not that great for video.
MPC-HC with madVR, Smooth Video Project, Audio Reclock plugins and some little ones.
MPlayerX all the way.
media player classic ....it can render subtitles far better than vlc
