Google Pixel Slate leaks in dark blue alongside keyboard cover and stylus
Google appears to have long given up trying to keep Pixel 3 and 3 XL leaks in check, poking fun at conspiracy theorists to build buzz around a product announcement event next week that almost feels pointless right now.
Almost, because the search giant may not have a Pixel Ultra in the pipeline, but a Pixel Slate is pretty much guaranteed to see daylight on October 9 with iPad Pro and Surface Pro 6-rivaling hardware.
This is technically not a direct sequel for last year’s Pixelbook laptop, running Chrome OS on the software side of things, but focusing more on portability and versatility with a detachable keyboard in tow.
The tablet and its pogo pin-connecting accessory are today rendered in crystal clear quality for the very first time, looking... sleek but not exactly game-changing. The Google Pixel Slate is expected to adopt the same 3:2 aspect ratio as the Pixelbook, with conventionally thick bezels and a screen we don’t know a great deal about in terms of size or resolution.
In fairness, a number of key specifications remain under wraps, including battery capacity and camera resolution for both a rear-facing and front-facing snapper, but these freshly leaked images do seem to reveal the presence of front-firing stereo speakers, a USB Type-C port, and most likely, a fingerprint sensor too.
It’s unclear if Google is taking the war against the headphone jack to the next level by removing the audio connector from the company’s tablets as well (it’s possible), while the accompanying keyboard cover features distinctive circular keys that include a Google Assistant shortcut.
The tablet, keyboard, and a capacitive stylus sharing clear similarities with the existing Pixelbook Pen are all covered in a dark blue coat of paint that's definitely going to help them stand out from the 2-in-1 pack.
Of course, dual-booting Windows 10 and Chrome OS, as well as combining Intel Core i7 processing power with up to 16GB RAM, could also do the trick. But let’s wait and see precisely what Google has up its sleeve here. Maybe there’s at least one surprise left.
