web of trust is a good add-on for your web browser, its like site advisor but better - these are all free and give you the ultimate protection
source: IT expert and been monitoring ISO certified Anti-Virus testing websites for 10 years, for every year Avira Free comes first almost every time for detection and only has 1 or 2 false positives.

If you must pay then get Kaspersky or Bit-Defender (I find Kaspersky to be lighter on the sytem)
