Nintendo Announces The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Sequel
Nintendo has revealed that it is now working on a sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The announcement was made as part of the Nintendo Direct event for E3 2019, coming as a major surprise to fans of the series.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is one of the most critically-acclaimed video games ever, even winning Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2017 against some tough opposition. Arriving as a launch title for the Nintendo Switch, as well as released for Nintendo's predecessor Wii U, it became a smash hit, and is in contention for one of the best games of all time. However, fans of the series did not expect an announcement on a sequel to arrive this soon, no matter how well the game was received.
The unveiling was made at the end of the Nintendo Direct stream, with a brief cinematic trailer showcasing that the game is in the works. It's all quite cryptic at the moment, but at the very least it looks like it's going to maintain that gorgeous art style of the original. The trailer in question can be seen below.
The new trailer does not reveal much about what this sequel will be, yet does provide a little bit of content nonetheless, showing Link and Zelda in the same style as Breath of the Wild. The duo are exploring deep in a cave while mysterious magic stirs. It appears that the two then find the corpse of Ganon underneath Hyrule Castle, although it seems as though the villain might not be as down and out as the pair might have initially thought.
Although this unveiling is a bit of a shock, there have been rumblings about a potential new game in the series. Whispers started to spread back in November 2018 that the next game in the main line of the Zelda series was closer than fans may think, and Nintendo has definitely proved that rumor to be true.
It may well be some time before more finite details on this sequel to Breath of the Wild see the light of day. For now, there's no release date or even a title. However, no doubt Nintendo will be sure to share this news once the game is in a more concrete state.
