A GameStop Store is Advertising Call of Duty: Black Ops 4's Switch Release
Previous rumors have indicated that a version of this fall's upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 will also release for Nintendo Switch, and now there's even more smoke. While there's still nothing in the form of an official announcement, a GameStop location in Europe has begun putting Nintendo Switch cases of the first-person shooter on display. Considering the official reveal for Black Ops 4 is set to take place May 17 (we'll be there!), the timing is certainly interesting.
Official details have been light so far on Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but there have been a ton of rumors. The biggest one, which has upset plenty of fans, is that Activision's marquee title won't have a single-player campaign. The rumors have sometimes been contradictory, but one thing has been made very clear so far: Black Ops 4 will wind up altering the Call of Duty formula in a major way. Either way, expect all misconceptions to be cleared later this week.
Previous Call of Duty Switch reports indicated that a new Battle Royale mode is being planned for this year's release and that this mode alone would become a standalone product for the Nintendo platform. It would release on the same day as the main game on other platforms, October 12, 2017.
Before getting too excited about the possibility of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 on Nintendo Switch, it's worth noting that this could simply be a misinformed retailer. After all, as you can tell by the positioning of the PEGI rating, this isn't an official box-art, but rather just a placeholder image mocked up by GameStop for advertising purposes. Plus, Call of Duty site CharlieINTEL, which has been reliable on leaks in the past, says that the Nintendo Switch version isn't happening.
One other Black Ops 4 rumor that looks a bit more of a sure thing is that the latest Call of Duty will once again feature PlayStation 4 exclusivity when it comes to receiving multiplayer maps first. The studio put out a brief teaser video on Twitter today that ended with a PlayStation logo, which would indicate that the existing marketing deal is still in place for this year's installment. Typically, the exclusivity deal means that PlayStation 4 owners will get access to DLC maps for 30 days before it goes to other platforms.
