D&D Celebration 2020 Will Feature The Largest Virtual Game Ever Played
Wizards of the Coast has announced that D&D Celebration 2020 will contain the largest virtual D&D game of all time as part of the celebrations for the release of Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. There has been a growing online presence for tabletop gaming, especially as we currently live in an era where it can be dangerous to meet up in person with friends.
2019 was Dungeons & Dragons' best year in terms of sales, which has been helped by a number of online shows that promote the game. It's easier than ever to find real-life groups of players thanks to social media, but it's even easier to find groups online, who play using video conferencing software and apps that can simulate dice rolls. Wizards of the Coast has been hosting massive real-life events to promote new books, which is a testament to the growing influence of Dungeons & Dragons in the media landscape.
The next Dungeons & Dragons campaign will be Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden, which will be released on September 15. To celebrate the release of the campaign, Wizards of the Coast will be hosting an online event called D&D Celebration 2020, which will run from September 18-20.
What Dungeons & Dragons Celebration 2020 Is
On September 19, D&D Celebration 2020 will host the largest game of D&D in history, with hundreds of players around the world playing in the same game, with actions from the groups affecting the outcome of the final encounter. This epic game will take place in Icewind Dale and it involves an event called the "Great Knucklehead Rally," where a fishing tournament goes awry. All proceeds from tickets for D&D Adventurers League play will go to support Extra Life benefiting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Check out DnD Celebration 2020 for more information about the event. The full schedule for the event will be revealed in the first week of September.
There are numerous ways to play Dungeons & Dragons online with both friends and strangers, but D&D Celebration 2020 will be taking it to another level. The hints that have been released about Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden suggest that the Ten-Towns region will come under threat from some overwhelming menace (most likely Auril, the goddess of ice and the titular Frostmaiden) and it's possible that hundreds of adventurers from across the globe will need to band together to save the world, in an apocalyptic battle that takes place in the heart of winter.
Tasha's Cauldron of Everything will be released on November 17, 2020.
