Conan Unconquered Real-Time Strategy Game Releases May 30
Conan Unconquered, the latest upcoming real-time strategy game published by Funcom and developed by Dune 2 and Command & Conquer veterans Petroglyph, will release on May 30. The game was first announced in 2018 as a fast-paced and brutally violent RTS that pits players against hordes of enemies, with each battle more difficult than the last.
The most famous iteration of Conan is in the 1982 movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger in the role, but Conan has seen several iterations through video games, including Age of Conan: Unchained and the recent Conan Exiles, both published by Funcom. Conan Unconquered offers a different take on the story by letting players choose characters, set up settlements and defend those settlements from invaders. Players can also explore the world to find valuable loot and resources. What sets Conan Unconquered apart from other RTS games, though, is that instead of building a base and then going out to attack the enemy, the base itself is always under constant attack by enemies that get more difficult to fight over time. It also features co-op so that players can work together to defend against those attacks.
Funcom just revealed a release date for Conan Unconquered. The game will arrive on PC on May 30. There is a standard edition, which will cost $29.99, as well as a deluxe edition priced at $39.99. The deluxe edition includes two pieces of DLC, the game soundtrack and an original Conan Unconquered e-book. Pre-orders are open now on the game's official website. The character of Conan has recently seen a resurgence in pop culture: he even got a new comic book series from Marvel. Although a movie based on Conan starring Jason Momoa seems to have been mostly forgotten, the character will instead get a new series on Amazon, with a promise that the show will follow the novels more than the Schwarzenegger movie did. It's obvious that Hollywood wants to revisit the franchise, but it will be essential to get it right to keep fans interested.
In the meantime, Conan fans can dive into Conan Unconquered, and with the character becoming popular again, it's likely that the title will keep the spirit of the character alive until the TV series releases. Beyond that, Conan Unconquered also looks like an interesting take on a genre that hasn't had a lot of innovation recently. If it breathes life into the RTS scene, Conan Unconquered might really prove the property is capable of anything.
