All Dragon Ball Announcements This Week

2018 was a big year for many franchises. With Dragon Ball, there was the season finale of DragonBall Super, Broly officially made canon in the Dragon Ball Super Movie, and Dragon Ball FighterZ becoming one of the biggest fighting games. There are a lot of goodies to excite the Dragon Ball enthusiasts and 2019 looks to continue that trend on the video game side of things. During a livestream, Bandai Namco (alongside with the Producers of Xenoverse 2 and Dragon Ball FighterZ) laid out the roadwork for upcoming content coming soon for their games

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2: Upcoming Updates

It isn’t rare to see a fighting game see ongoing support for years after its initial release, and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is no exception. We got a quick recap of what the Extra DLC Pack 4 gave us which included Super’s Broly, Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta, costumes and abilities of the two characters, the Tournament of Power stage and other small additions.

To go with the Extra DLC Pack 4, we also saw the new mode called Crystal Raid that allows for players to become “Boss Characters” and partake in 5v1 matches. They can either take their own character and have them be super powerful or take control of the special end-game boss characters. Xenoverse 2 will also get a Photo mode. This will allow players to set up their favorite Dragon Ball characters in any pose in the game and create their own special screenshots and pictures. You can also tweak the coloring, brightness, and gradient to give your pictures that extra flair. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 will continue to see more updates in 2019, including the fancy coats Goku and Vegeta wore in the Broly movie. It will be fun to see how many more characters they will throw into the game considering its formidable roster.

Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission Announced For The West

The Digital Card Game looks to be finally making its trek to North America. Dragon Ball Heroes is like a special “spinoff” series of sorts where you can have random situations play out such as having Super Saiyan Blue Goku go up against Super Saiyan 4 Goku. There is a whole other anime covering this, but in the game’s context, it is a digital card game. If I were to take a crack at describing the game, it is like Yu-Gi-Oh! except you have Dragon Ball characters in their place. Even the main character of the game, Beat, has the same drive of “Becoming the best Dragon Ball Heroes Player of all time!” when the game bleeds into the real world.

While it would be fun to draw comparisons between the two card games, the main thing to note is the card game is fairly popular in Japan. The problem though is that up to this point, the series has never extended out of Japan ever since its first appearance in 2010.

All of that will change when Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission will arrive on PC and the Nintendo Switch, April 5.

DragonBall FighterZ: Season 2 Announcement… Later…

While it was nice to see the other games get new information, everyone had their eyes on the fighting game that took the world by storm. The problem, however, is that they dashed aside the expectations by saying that details on the 2nd season will come at a later date.

As underwhelming as that sounds, they said more information would come during the Dragon Ball Fighterz World Tour Finals on January 25-26, but not much else. Hopefully, the wait will be worth it, but many in the community are calling this a bait and switch as the game people were waiting to see got no actual new details like the other two titles.

Dragon Ball Game Project Z Action RPG gets Silent Announcement

What do you call an announcement that didn’t make the cut? The answer is apparently Project Z.

On Bandai Namco Europe’s Twitter, a tweet went out to point out two things: The first was how “The Warrior from Universe 11 is joining the fight!” So we will see Jiren or Toppo during the World Tour Finals next weekend. The second was the announcement of, a new project “focusing on the world of Dragon Ball Z.”

Now you might be asking, “Well this sounds like it should be a big deal. Why wasn’t this announced on the live stream?” As it turns out, Bandai Namco did respond to the question stating, “We simply could not give this information earlier.” Honestly, that is a fair point. After all, who knows how many people would raise hell over the lack of a DBFZ announcement and use the time to talk about a game that we don’t have one screenshot.

All we know is that a new Action RPG is in the works and that’s about it. Perhaps we will get to see something later this year at the tradeshows and find out just what Project Z is all about.

So What Did You Think Of These Announcements?
Chances are that if you were watching the stream solely for more information on Dragon Ball FighterZ, they left you with empty expectations. While we will see information pop up soon in the coming weeks, it is a shame we didn’t at least have a small teaser or something to get us excited for what new character that could come soon. Otherwise, we have a Dragon Ball game finally going worldwide while Xenoverse will continue to grow and expand out. Who knows what 2019 will have for Dragon Ball, but it will be fun to see where we go from here.
