After Yellowjackets season 1 spent its time establishing both central casts of the 1996 and present-day storylines, season 2 promises to expand the show's roster of characters while further exploring the grizzly events surrounding the plane crash, and how they still linger in the present. After season 1 concluded with the reveal that Courtney Eaton's Lottie Matthews may have played a part in the death of Travis Martinez (Kevin Alves), Yellowjackets season 2 will introduce Simone Kessell's present-day Lottie alongside Lauren Ambrose, who will play the adult version of Liv Hewson's Vanessa "Van" Palmer. Elijah Wood also joins Yellowjackets season 2 as Walter, a new character in the present day storyline who is a citizen detective like Ricci's Misty.

Alongside expanding the cast, Yellowjackets season 2 will also answer many mysteries that season 1 established through its dual storylines. Though season 2 will address the horrific lengths that the plane crash survivors went to in order to survive, upcoming episodes of Yellowjackets will also examine the many discrepancies between the 1996 and present day storylines. While showrunner Jonathan Lisco teased that Yellowjackets season 2 would reveal the reason why Jackie's (Ella Purnell) diary contains entries written after her icy death in 1996, it was also confirmed that the new season will reveal the fate of young Shauna's (Nélisse) baby after season 1 established that her daughter Callie (Sarah Desjardins) was born too late to be that child.

Yellowjackets season 1 captivated audiences through its tense mysteries, brutal moments, and implications of darker things to come for the survivors of the 1996 cast, and season 2's first teaser promises that upcoming episodes will continue to build on the mysteries that the present day cast are desperate to keep hidden. While the series' showrunners have already promised that season 2 will give viewers some much desired answers about the Yellowjackets' battle for survival, the quick glimpses at bloody, foreboding imagery in the recently released trailer are sure to keep dedicated fans speculating what the upcoming season may hold as they wait for the March 24 premiere. With Ricci teasing a wilder season 2, the dark teaser for Yellowjacket's return may only be the tip of the iceberg.
