Actor Simon Pegg comments on the possibility of Shaun of the Dead 2 ever being produced. Pegg starred as Shaun in the zombie-horror cult classic film, the first entry in writer-director Edgar Wright's Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy, along with the action-comedy Hot Fuzz, and the science-fiction comedy The World's End. The film finds Shaun during a zombie apocalypse as he teams up with his goofy roommate Ed (Nick Frost) in an attempt to secure his ex-girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) as well as his mother Barbara (Penelope Wilton) at a local pub for safety.

Shaun of the Dead proved to be both a critical and box office success as it pulled in $30 million from its original $6 million budget. Since the film's release, fans have been speculating Wright and Pegg would ever re-team to complete a sequel to their hit movie. However, Wright has previously put a damper on those discussions saying that he has no desire to make Shaun of the Dead 2, as the initial experience was more than satisfying for him.

In a recent interview with Soho House, Pegg responded to the possibility of making a Shaun of the Dead sequel. The actor explained that since much of the main characters have met their demise, there is not much room for a sequel. Read what Pegg said about a potential Shaun of the Dead 2 below.

"It baffles me how there possibly could be a Shaun Of The Dead 2, because most of the main characters are dead. One of them is a zombie, in a shed… which would be boring."

Pegg understands that nearly all of the central characters have died by the end of the film with only Shaun and Liz surviving. As a result of the minimal main cast remaining, there is not much room for any meaningful advancement of the story. Although Ed did not die, he was unfortunately bitten by the undead in the film's climactic scene and turned into a zombie. However, as Pegg pointed out, Ed as a zombie chained to a shed would be undoubtedly "boring."

Although Pegg is correct that there is not much room to further Shaun's narrative, it is possible to create a sequel if Wright followed a different set of characters instead. For example, the similarly themed Danny Boyle film, 28 Days Later, saw very few survivors by the film's end. However, a successful sequel, 28 Weeks Later, was produced following a whole new set of characters existing in the same world as the original film. Although Shaun of the Dead 2 appears to have no future of ever being made, if the story separates itself from its titular character, there may be a chance a spiritual sequel can be made.
