Why Netflix's The Witcher Season 2 Should Be Less Confusing To Follow
In case you somehow missed the news, The Witcher will be back for Season 2! The wait for when filming will begin for the Netflix series’ return is currently wearing on. In the meantime, there is assuring news for fans looking forward to The Witcher’s second season. It should be less confusing to follow than the first.
As tends to be the case with most freshman series, The Witcher had to introduce many main and supporting characters, an ensemble that includes Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia. While Geralt is a central force that needed to be understood, he is not the only one basking in the series’ bright spotlight. Season 1 also has several different groups, locations, mythologies, and storylines to follow -- not to mention the stories are set in three different timelines.
The Witcher Season 1 confused some newcomers unfamiliar with the books and video games. When it comes to Season 2, The Witcher’s showrunner, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told GamesRadar:
What’s great about Season 2, I can tell you, is that, in what we’ve written, the story becomes much more focused. There’s a stronger drive in the story, because all of the relationships that we’ve been setting up in Season 1, actually start to come into fruition in Season 2.
There you have it! With all of the chess pieces on the board, The Witcher can start digging deeper into a more focused narrative. One that will see more interactions among the ensemble. Will Season 2’s story also include the reveal of Geralt’s last wish? Stay tuned. One thing is for certain: Freya Allen has teased that Ciri will become “a lot more brutal” heading into Season 2.
The Witcher’s showrunner did not leave her tease of a less confusing Season 2 there. Lauren Schmidt Hissrich also hinted at the characters crossing paths more and how that will play out. It does not sound like it will always be smooth sailing. Thank goodness for Netflix’s binge formatting! It will come in handy, given what The Witcher’s showrunner hints as lying ahead. Hissrich teased:
Characters start meeting and interacting more. That goes well sometimes. It doesn’t go well sometimes. But it’s kind of like, all of those building blocks that we set up for the world finally start to come together into something a little more concrete.
It sounds like Geralt will need that bathtub time more than ever in Season 2. Is there a better way to get over things not going well when The Witcher returns? Exactly. If “Bathtub Geralt” has to make a comeback, it could mean the committed Henry Cavill enduring some very stressful efforts to get ready for more shirtless scenes.
Back to what The Witcher’s showrunner said. It sounds like the fantasy drama (which could last quite a while on Netflix) will just keep building on its foundation with Season 2. That is what series' second seasons are for, and fans of The Witcher will get to see how it handles the next chapter in its journey.
Following some important changes from the books, The Witcher has pulled off a successful first season. Fans who have already binged the series’ eight episodes should take solace in this tease about Season 2. There are a lot of adventures left to watch and characters to see interact!
