When Will Thor: Love And Thunder Release On Disney+?
Following its exclusive run in theaters, the MCU movie Thor: Love and Thunder will arrive on Disney+ for its streaming release. The mixed-reviewed sequel premiered in theaters as a box office success, with Thor: Love and Thunder's domestic box office opening falling behind those of only Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Jurassic World Dominion for 2022 releases. Given that this highly anticipated summer blockbuster has such an impressive start to its theatrical run, Disney may not be eager to make Thor: Love and Thunder available online so soon.
Starring Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster/Mighty Thor, Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher, Tessa Thompson as King Valkyrie, and Russell Crowe as Zeus, Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder sees the title superhero attempting to find inner peace while stopping Gorr from destroying all gods. Following Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the latest MCU installment takes a step away from exploring the multiverse as the franchise returns to more fun and comedic adventures. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the fourth Thor movie has received more positive reactions from audiences, and this bodes well for the continued success of Thor: Love and Thunder in theaters before becoming available to stream on Disney+.
When Thor: Love And Thunder Starts Streaming On Disney+
The streaming release date of Thor: Love and Thunder on Disney+ has yet to be confirmed, but the trends of when previous MCU moves became available online help predict the timeline. While Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness became available on Disney+ only 47 days after its theatrical debut, 2021’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings waited approximately three months before subscribers could stream it for no additional cost online. Since Shang-Chi’s arrival came when Disney was still testing out its theater-to-streaming paradigm, the Doctor Strange sequel gives a more accurate estimate for when the divisive Thor: Love and Thunder will be available on Disney+. If following the 47-day exclusive window (accounting for the typical Wednesday Disney+ premiere), Thor: Love and Thunder can be expected to stream on Disney+ on August 24 at the earliest. However, should Disney choose to give the movie a lengthy exclusivity in theaters, Thor: Love and Thunder could start streaming on Disney+ at the beginning of October at the latest.
Will Thor: Love And Thunder Be Free To Watch On Disney+
Once Thor: Love and Thunder arrives on Disney+, subscribers will be able to stream the MCU movie for free. Disney+ has seemingly shifted away from its Premier Access initiative, which previously allowed subscribers to stream new movies still in theaters for an additional fee. For now, all Disney+ subscribers will be able to stream Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder for free, but it hasn’t been revealed whether this will change once the platform drops its ad-supported subscription tier later in 2022.
When Will Thor: Love And Thunder Release On Blu-Ray
Disney has also yet to confirm when Thor: Love and Thunder will release on Blu-ray. However, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’s Blu-ray release date is set for July 26, which is 81 days after its theatrical premiere on May 6. The MCU’s newest addition can be expected to follow a similar timeline, which means Thor: Love and Thunder’s Blu-ray release date will fall around Tuesday, September 27.
