What To Expect From The Game of Thrones Prequel TV Show
What can fans expect from the Game of Thrones prequel show, potentially titled The Long Night? Numerous Game of Thrones spinoffs are in the works, but the first will be overseen by Jane Goldman, with A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin being credited as a co-creator.
Created by David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, HBO’s Game of Thrones has aired for eight seasons, from 2011 to 2019. And while Martin felt that the story could continue for a number of years to come, Benioff and Weiss felt it was time to wrap things up. However, that doesn't mean HBO is leaving Westeros behind, as the network hopes to get the Game of Thrones prequel on the air quite soon.
Now that HBO's Game of Thrones has concluded, the hype will intensify for the next franchise installment, and things are already underway on the project. Here’s everything we know and expect from the Game of Thrones prequel series.
GAME OF THRONES PREQUEL TV SHOW RELEASE DATE INFO
According to HBO president of programming Casey Bloys, the Game of Thrones prequel series starts filming in early summer 2019. Given the secretive nature of the show, it’s unclear how long production will take, but if HBO gives the Game of Thrones prequel a full series order, it should then premiere in by spring 2021.
GAME OF THRONES PREQUEL TV SHOW STORY DETAILS
In June 2018, HBO revealed that the Game of Thrones prequel story would feature the Age of Heroes, thousands of years before the War of the Five Kings. The prequel will also chronicle “the true origin of the White Walkers.” Based on this information, fans have speculated that the prequel series would focus on The Long Night, in which the White Walkers first attacked Westeros. Based on other revelations, though, the Game of Thrones prequel may not involve dragons, and there won’t be an Iron Throne. In addition, the series may feature The Children of the Forest, who were responsible for creating the White Walkers. As for the story, there have been rumors that the series may focus on the first Lannister, and that it may potentially address the story of Azor Ahai.
GAME OF THRONES PREQUEL TV SHOW CAST
Naomi Watts was the first to be cast in the Game of Thrones prequel series. She’ll reportedly portray a socialite who's withholding a "dark" secret. Then in October 2018, Poldark actor Josh Whitehouse was cast as the male lead, with Miranda Richardson also joining the series. It wasn't long after that Game of Thrones prequel series rounded out its cast, including: Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia), Jamie Campbell Bower (The Mortal Instruments), Alex Sharp (The Hustle), Toby Regbo (The Last Kingdom), Denise Gough (The Kid Who Would Be King), John Simm (Doctor Who), Naomi Ackie (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker), Dixie Egerickx (The Little Stranger), John Heffernan (The Loch), Ivanno Jeremiah (Humans), Richard McCabe (Harlots), and Marquis Rodriguez (Luke Cage).
GAME OF THRONES PREQUEL TV SHOW TITLE
The Game of Thrones prequel series doesn’t have an official title yet, Martin previously suggested that it would be called The Long Night, which later became the title of Game of Thrones' Battle of Winterfell episode. Furthermore, it's been reported that the prequel series’ working title is Bloodmoon. Perhaps the Game of Thrones prequel will have an astronomical phenomenon.
