Vin Diesel shares a new piece of concept art from the long-gestating Riddick 4: Furya, teasing the arrival of a mysterious character. Diesel's Riddick was first introduced in Pitch Black, a modestly-budgeted sci-fi action film from director David Twohy. After the first film became something of a cult classic, Diesel reteam with Twohy for The Chronicles of Riddick in 2004. Despite generally negative reviews from critics, the film's box office and strong DVD sales led to Riddick in 2013. The third film, also directed by Towhy, features the return of Karl Urban's Vaako from the previous installment but also introduces new characters played by Katee Sackhoff and Matt Nable. Not long after the release of the third film, Diesel revealed that work on a fourth installment was underway.

Although Riddick 4: Furya's story remains shrouded in mystery, Diesel has now shared a new piece of concept art for the film on Instagram, teasing a mysterious new character.

The actor is careful not to share any details about the film or the depicted character, using the caption "Furya awaits..." While it's unclear just who is featured in the concept art, the character is adorned with ornate facial piercing and decorations, and his ominous facial expression would suggest that he could be one of the film's villains.

Everything We Know About Riddick 4: Furya

After initially announcing that work on a fourth Riddick movie was underway in 2014, Diesel later confirmed the news in 2016, revealing that Twohy would be returning to write and direct the film. Officially information on the project has been scarce, but Diesel shared on social media in 2019 that the script had been completed. Updates have been few and far between since then, but Diesel recently shared another piece of concept art from Riddick 4: Furya depicting his character flying through the air with a female companion during an action sequence.

In terms of plot, not much is officially known about the movie, but the "Furya" subtitle would suggest that it could heavily involve Riddick's home planet. Furya is essentially considered a dead planet after a Necromonger attack wiped out most of the Furyans living there. Diesel's character attempts to return there during the events of the 2013 franchise installment but is ultimately unsuccessful. The movie's ending, however, suggests that he's not ready to give up on his quest just yet. Riddick 4: Furya could continue Diesel's quest to return to his home planet and potentially even primarily take place there, which would mark an interesting turn of events for the franchise and create an opportunity to further flesh out Riddick's past and the past of his people.

With Diesel now sharing concept art, it's possible that Riddick 4: Furya is getting close to actually filming. After the release of Fast X, the upcoming tenth Fast & Furious movie, Diesel is expected to say farewell to the franchise with an eleventh movie. It's not clear how close Fast & Furious 11 is to going into production, but it's possible that his commitments to that major (and much more successful) franchise will affect when Riddick 4: Furya's Australia-based shoot can move forward. While many questions remain about Riddick's upcoming fourth adventure, the movie is clearly now closer to happening than ever before.
