Tom Holland's Uncharted Movie Will Start Filming Next Week
It has been reported that the upcoming Uncharted adaptation will be resuming filming next week. The highly anticipated adaptation of the beloved video game series was just starting principal photography in Berlin when the coronavirus pandemic hit and caused production to shut down, its third delay. The film, which was delayed to October 2021, was recently pushed up and is now slated to be released in July 2021.
Uncharted will be an adaptation of the revered Naughty Dog video game series, where Holland will step into the shoes of Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter who travels the globe to hunt down the most sought after loot, often with the help of his friend and mentor, Sully, who will be played by Mark Wahlberg in the film. The adaptation has had a bumpy ride in terms of its development, going through several directors, writers and incarnations before finally moving forward. After Holland recently posted a set photo confirming production was about to get underway, it appears as if the delayed adaptation will be resuming filming very soon.
According to THR, Sony's Uncharted adaptation will be resuming filming next week in Germany on July 20. The studio will be taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of the cast and crew, including strict social distancing, disinfection and mask requirements on set. Though other local productions have also resumed production, any scenes involving large crowds or a sizable amount of people are prohibited at this time.
The upcoming Uncharted adaptation, after losing director Travis Knight (Bumblebee), will now be directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom). The script was penned by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, and will star Holland, Wahlberg, Sophia Ali, Tati Gabrielle, and Antonio Banderas. The film is set to be an origin story for Drake, with Holland playing a young version of the popular treasure hunter. Holland even recently posted a picture revealing his physical transformation for his role as Drake.
Though the adaptation has run into a litany of problems on its way toward production, its comforting to see that the adaptation will finally be moving forward in front of cameras. The games are rich with terrific stories and characters, and Holland's charisma should shine through in this younger iteration of the character. It's also encouraging that the crew will be taking all the necessary health and safety precautions in order to keep everyone safe as production resumes. Though the coronavirus is highly unpredictable and could certainly cause further delays for various productions, it's exciting news to hear that Uncharted will be moving full steam ahead next week.
