Spider-Man's Tom Holland Saves Fan From Being Crushed By Autograph Seekers
Cementing his status as a real life superhero, Spider-Man: Far From Home star Tom Holland saves a young fan from being crushed by autograph seekers. Holland made his debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Peter Parker in 2016's Captain America: Civil War before spinning out to launch a solo franchise in 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming. The young actor joined the blockbuster universe after it was announced Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios struck a deal to share Spider-Man so he could appear in the MCU, prompting a new casting process for the role. Holland was cast as Spider-Man in 2015, taking over from Andrew Garfield, who starred in The Amazing Spider-Man films.
In his four, soon to be five, appearances as Spider-Man in the MCU, Holland has earned plenty of fans for his portrayal of the iconic wall-crawling superhero. Certainly, when he was cast Holland had a high bar to live up to, with both Garfield and Tobey Maguire having portrayed Spider-Man in live-action films before him. But Holland has established his own, younger take on Peter Parker, one that has become key to the MCU. Next, Holland stars in this summer's Spider-Man: Far From Home, which closes out Phase 3 of the MCU and follows on from the world-changing events of Avengers: Endgame. But it seems Holland doesn't save all his superhero antics for the screen, recently helping out a fan in real life.
While signing autographs in New York City, NY during the cast's latest stop on the Spider-Man: Far From Home press tour, Holland stepped in to prevent autograph seekers from crushing a young fan. The fan, Twitter user @NamelessCass, posted a video of Holland and a description of the circumstances from which the Spider-Man actor saved her. See her tweet and watch the video below.

While it's undoubtedly heartening to see Holland step up and protect those in need, the fan who posted the video is correct in saying the situation should have never escalated to that point. Fans meeting and potentially getting autographs from their favorite celebrities have been known to go a little wild, but it should never get to a point where it endangers others. Hopefully he won't have to do it again, but Holland using his position to deescalate the situation and save the young fan from being crushed is good to see.
In fact, it's another instance of the actors playing MCU heroes melding with their hero personas themselves - just like Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man and Chris Evans as Captain America. This situation with Holland even took place in Spider-Man's hometown, New York City, though it's likely the video was taken in Manhattan rather than Peter Parker's home borough of Queens. Now, Downey and Evans have stepped away from the MCU after Avengers: Endgame, with Iron Man dying and Captain America passing on the mantle. As such, Spider-Man: Far From Home sees Peter being pushed into a bigger role as Earth's protector, just as Holland is stepping up to be a face of the MCU. Thankfully, Holland is just as heroic as the superhero he plays on screen.
