Smallville Star Kristin Kreuk Ready To Guest Star In Arrowverse
Kristin Kreuk, who played Lana Lang for seven seasons on The WB and CW’s Smallville, would guest star in the Arrowverse. While the Arrowverse, in general, has played with cameos, its crossover event, Crisis on Infinite Earths, brought back many actors from older DC TV shows. Among the most exciting of these guest spots was Smallville’s Lois Lane (Erica Durance) and Clark Kent (Tom Welling).
No show has arguably had a greater impact on the Arrowverse’s creation than Smallville. As one of the longest-running superhero shows of all time, Smallville set a standard for how The CW has approached live-action comic book adaptations. Welling and Durance’s brief appearance in the Arrowverse served as a respectful nod to that legacy. The tasteful bookend saw Smallville’s Superman live happily ever after without his powers. Those cameos have seemingly opened the door to the return of other characters from Smallville such as Michael Rosenbaum’s Lex Luthor or Kreuk’s Lana Lang.
In an interview with TVLine, Kristin Kreuk talked about the upcoming Superman & Lois series, the Arrowverse, and Lana Lang. Superman & Lois will star Entourage alum Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang-Cushing, a loan officer at Smallville bank. Now married and middle-aged, the Lana in Superman & Lois will be very different from the one on Smallville. While expressing excitement to see this version of her character, Kreuk talked about how she has felt seeing Smallville in the Arrowverse.“It’s so fun to have Smallville get incorporated into the current comic book shows,” said Kreuk. “It feels like we’re in a continuum, which is really neat.” The actress was also asked if she’d be up for an appearance in that continuum: “Yea, totally, depending on what it was. It’d be so much fun.”
The last fans saw of Lana in Smallville, she had absorbed a large amount of kryptonite into her alien-tech super-suit. Unable to be around Clark, Lana left Smallville to do good elsewhere in the world. That said, it might be difficult to subtly work this super-powered Lana into the Arrowverse. However, just seeing Kreuk in the universe would mean a lot to fans (in any way, shape, or form). At the very least, she could make a cameo appearance like former Superman Dean Cain or former Supergirl Helen Slater did in Supergirl.
Thematically, Superman & Lois could prove a perfect opportunity for Kreuk to appear in the Arrowverse. Chriqui's Lana is set to play a major role in The CW series as she re-establishes a friendship with Tyler Hoechlin’s Clark. The relationship between Lana and Clark was one of Smallville’s defining aspects (especially in the beginning). In many ways, Kreuk's Lana played a more pivotal role in Clark's journey to becoming Superman than other incarnations of the character.
