Scream 6 Trailer: It's Jenna Ortega vs. Ghostface In NYC
The official Scream 6 trailer has been released. The film, which is a direct follow-up to Scream 2022 and the sixth overall entry in the slasher franchise, will follow the core group of survivors from Scream 2022 (including Melissa Barrera as Sam Carpenter, Jenna Ortega as Tara Carpenter, Jasmine Savoy-Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin, and Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin) as a new Ghostface killer stalks them in New York City. Other returning cast members will include Courteney Cox as intrepid TV reporter Gale Weathers and Hayden Panettiere as Scream 4 fan-favorite Kirby Reed, who was previously presumed dead.
Today, Paramount Pictures unveiled the first full trailer for the slasher sequel ahead of Scream 6's official release date on March 10.
"There's never been one like me," teases Ghostface while threatening Gale over the phone in the trailer. In addition to revealing a closer look at various moments from the film, including the killer stalking Sam and Tara in a bodega and Mindy crawling over a ladder to safety, the trailer includes first looks at several characters who haven't yet been revealed, including the one played by Avatar: The Way of Water's Jack Champion.
Everything The Trailer Reveals About Scream 6
While this trailer offers a closer glimpse at how the new Ghostface killer operates, there is surely more that has yet to be revealed about what makes this one different from the killers in the previous five Scream movies. However, there are a few notable ways that this Ghostface is different. The first is the mask, which is an aged and cracked mask similar to the one used by Michael Myers in the 2018 Halloween trilogy. The second is his shrine to Ghostfaces past, which seems to be hidden in a disused high rise.
One other, major way that Ghostface has upped the ante this time is a willingness to use a gun while stalking victims. While guns are commonplace in the final acts of these movies as the killer reveals their identity and motive, the previous Ghostface killers have almost always used knives or other slasher weapons when cutting down the bulk of their Scream franchise body count. All in all, this adds up to a much more threatening Ghostface who is willing to bend the rules, as well as seeming to be a more powerful figure in general.
Another thing the Scream 6 trailer reveals is that Sam isn't entirely over the events of the previous film. One shot sees her carrying the Ghostface mask as she frets about bringing the darkness of her past with her from Woodsboro, continuing the previous film's implication that she might be the killer. While that seems unlikely (a similar shot implied that Gale might be the killer in the trailer for 2011's Scream 4), there is likely going to be some kind of huge twist that audiences won't see coming.
