Ryan Reynolds Will Co-Write & Star In New Netflix Comedy
Ryan Reynolds will be starring in and co-writing a new comedy film for Netflix entitled Upstate. Reynolds was last seen in the Netflix action film 6 Underground from director Michael Bay, which performed well on the streaming service despite largely poor reviews. The actor will next be seen in the upcoming comedy Free Guy, which was originally intended to hit theaters in July 2020, but was pushed to December 2020 due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
According to Variety, Reynolds will be co-writing the script for Netflix with previous collaborator John August, who directed Reynolds in The Nines, one of the actor's smaller, lesser-known films. Reynolds will also be serving as an executive producer on the film along with August. August's previous writing credits include Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Big Fish, Dark Shadows, and Disney's live-action Aladdin remake. There are no plot details for the film at this time.
In addition to Free Guy, Reynolds will also be starring The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard, the comedy sequel that was recently pushed to August 2021 due to the coronavirus. He will also be starring in another film for Netflix, Red Notice, which will also star Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot. While the highly-anticipated action film had to pause production earlier this year, Red Notice will resume filming next month and is expected to be released on Netflix in 2021. Reynolds will be producing and starring in Everyday Parenting Tips as well, a new monster comedy for Universal Pictures, written by Simon Rich. While essentially nothing is known about Upstate as of right now, there will be plenty of Reynolds' movies to enjoy in the coming years.
