Ryan Gosling is rumored to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a role in the Fantastic Four movie. Phase Five is about to start next month with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which will continue the ongoing Multiverse Saga. While several ongoing franchises are getting sequels, the MCU is about to reboot Marvel's first family, as the Fantastic Four are on their way. After having been with Fox for nearly two decades, Marvel Studios finally got the Fantastic Four rights back when Disney acquired 20th Century Studios. While the MCU did see Reed Richards in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, that was a Mister Fantastic variant and not the Earth-616 iteration. In Phase Six, Fantastic Four will be part of the slate as they gear up for the major Avengers films that are coming up.

Even though the Fantastic Four reboot isn't starting production any time soon, there have been ongoing speculations about who will star as the iconic heroes. It was initially expected the cast announcement would happen at D23 in 2022, as the film properly got its new creative team. However, it appears a huge Hollywood star may be heading toward the MCU. During the latest episode of The Hot Mic Podcast, Jeff Sneider brought up that he has heard rumblings that Gosling may be up for a role in Fantastic Four. At the time of this story's publication, Marvel Studios or anyone from Gosling's team has commented on the rumors.

"Then there's the rumor of Ryan Gosling playing Sentry in the MCU. People tell me he's like a Superman-kind of [character]. I haven't heard anything like that, obviously. I'd heard some Gosling Fantastic Four stuff..."
Everything We Know About MCU's Fantastic Four

Similar to most MCU movies, Marvel Studios have been keeping details heavily under wraps about the Fantastic Four reboot. The film was originally going to be helmed by Spider-Man director Jon Watts before he exited the project. WandaVision's Matt Shakman was officially tapped in 2022 to bring the Fantastic Four to life. Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer were later tapped by Marvel Studios as the writers for Fantastic Four.

Kevin Feige, who is executive producing the reboot, has stated that while this will be a new take on the heroes, it won't be an origin story. Given that Fox attempted to re-tell the origin story in 2015, it makes sense why Marvel Studios would want to avoid it for the MCU iterations. That means that wherever Reed, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm are, they have likely been a team for quite some time. Whether or not they have been operating as the Fantastic Four for several years or are early in their journey remains to be seen. Even though he had his cameo, John Krasinski is not expected to play Earth-616's Reed.

Would Ryan Gosling Fit In The MCU?

Gosling has regularly been brought up in fan castings for various roles in the MCU over the last few years. Given his star power, it is up for debate if he would be better fitted as Mister Fantastic, Human Torch, or even The Thing. Since Fantastic Four will be a major part of the MCU going forward, it would make sense if Marvel Studios tapped some major names for these iconic characters. Although at the same time, they may do a hybrid type of casting where they cast some unknowns for two of the heroes while the other two get portrayed by some A-list names. Gosling, who has even been imagined as MCU's Ghost Rider, would be a major get for the MCU if he were to join the Fantastic Four movie.
