The official trailer for The Resort, starring Cristin Milioti and William Jackson Harper, has been released. The Resort is set to air its first three episodes on Peacock on July 28 and was created by Andy Siara, who is also co-showrunner with his collaborator Allison Miller. The series will follow Noah (Harper) and Emma (Milioti), a couple celebrating their 10th anniversary at the Oceana Vista Resort in the Mayan Riviera. When they discover evidence of the 15-year-old disappearance of Sam Knowlston (Skyler Gisondo), the pair plunge themselves into solving the mystery, and the events of the past begin to test their already strained relationship. The Resort cast also includes Gabriela Cartol, Luis Gerardo Méndez, Nina Bloomgarden, and Parks & Recreation's Nick Offerman.

The Resort certainly has a lot of talent working both in front of and behind the camera. The series' first four episodes were directed by Dave's Ben Sinclair and also feature a robust supporting cast of regulars. This includes Sinclair himself as the owner of the resort, in addition to Mythic Quest's Parvesh Cheena and Barb and Star Go to Vista del Mar's Michael Hitchcock as a married couple who are both named Ted, Insatiable's Debby Ryan, Trick 'r Treat's Dylan Baker, and Freaks and Geeks' Becky Ann Baker.

Now, NBC has released the official The Resort trailer. In just 100 seconds, the trailer manages to set up the series' whole sprawling mystery, following Noah and Emma through their marital troubles as they arrive at the resort, which are diverted when Emma discovers missing person Sam Knowlston's phone buried in the dirt off the side of the road. Although the tone remains comedic throughout, the final third of the trailer reveals exactly how thrilling the puzzle box is that its leads are about to be plunged into. This trailer will certainly be enticing to fans of both actors, pushing the leads' familiarity with mind-bending premises into a much darker and more thrilling place. Harper is best known for his role on The Good Place, an afterlife sitcom that was packed with high concept twists and turns. For her part, Milioti recently starred in the 2020 film Palm Springs, another vacation-set sci-fi project that eerily played with time. In fact, Palm Springs was also written by Siara, who is clearly finding himself in comfortable territory with The Resort.

The Resort is an interesting blend of genres for Peacock. While the comedy and its setup seem superficially similar to the Apple TV+ series Schmigadoon, the tone is wildly different. If anything, this trailer evokes thriller projects like M. Night Shyamalan's Old more than any other comedy series currently airing, and it will certainly be interesting to see how Milioti, Jackson Harper and the rest of this talented cast pulls off that mix.
