Paul Thomas Anderson Interested In Making Teen Titans Movie

Acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson has expressed interest in making a Teen Titans movie. Best known for his collaborations with top-level talent like Daniel Day-Lewis and Joaquin Phoenix, he’s not exactly the sort of filmmaker you’d expect to be interested in helming a big budget superhero movie.


Anderson has written and directed eight feature-length films thus far, including Boogie Nights, There Will Be Blood, and The Master. He’s among the most celebrated directors working today, having been nominated for an Academy Award six times in his career. His latest effort, Phantom Thread, will surely be making noise this Oscar season, as it’s set to go down as Day-Lewis’ final performance before the actor rides off into the sunset of retirement. P.T. Anderson has already won Best Director awards from the Boston Society of Film Critics, New York Film Critics Circle, and Vancouver Film Critics Circle for his work in Phantom Thread.


Earlier today, Anderson answered a series of questions from fans in the Twitter version of a Reddit Ask Me Anything. He fielded queries of all sorts, including his preferred Will Ferrell movies (Step Brothers, Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and Anchorman), his take on the pizza vs pasta debate (pizza), and his favorite film of the year (Call Me By Your Name). Amidst the chaos, one fan asked which cartoon he would like to adapt if he were to make a film for his kids. (Anderson has four children with Saturday Night Live alum Maya Rudolph, with whom he’s been in a relationship since 2001). The director’s response was brief:

In fairness, given the way that the question is phrased, Anderson isn’t exactly declaring a Teen Titans movie to be his top priority. Still, it’s a pretty definitive answer, one that’s particularly intriguing when you take the filmmaker’s previous comments about superhero movies into account.


In a 2015 interview with Rolling Stone, Anderson stated that he feels that the superhero genre gets “a bad wrap“, saying that he considers himself to be “someone that enjoys watching those films.” Whether or not he truly wishes to helm a Teen Titans is unclear, but just to be safe, Warner Bros.


definitely needs to call his agent and schedule a sitdown with him. Regardless of DC’s plans to make a live-action Titans TV series, P.T. Anderson is one of the greatest filmmakers on the planet. If he can be brought into the DCEU in any capacity, WB should do whatever they can to make it happen.
