Murder Mystery Trailer: Adam Sandler & Jennifer Aniston Star In Whodunnit
Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston are caught up in a madcap European whodunnit in the first trailer for Netflix's Murder Mystery. The stars first teamed up for the critically panned 2011 romantic comedy Just Go With It, and now Sandler and Aniston are re-teaming thanks to Netflix. Both stars are already Netflix veterans of course, with Sandler having appeared in multiple movies for the streamer, and Aniston having starred in last year's YA drama Dumplin'.
In Murder Mystery, Sandler and Aniston play Nick and Audrey Spitz, a New York cop and his wife who go on a European vacation to try and bring some spark back to their marriage. But things take an unexpected turn when they're invited to a billionaire's yacht and find themselves being framed for his murder, touching off a modern day whodunnit. The comedy movie also stars Luke Evans, Gemma Arterton and Terence Stamp.
A new trailer for Murder Mystery has now been released by Netflix, giving fans their first taste of Sandler and Aniston's latest pairing, which clearly borrows from classic whodunnits like Murder on The Orient Express while putting a very Sandler-and-Aniston spin on the proceedings. The trailer kicks off with murder-mystery fan Aniston and husband Sandler (he's a cop, in case the cheesy mustache didn't give it away) en route to Europe by plane, when Aniston finds herself conversing with a mysterious stranger (Evans) while Sandler snoozes in his seat. Aniston's meeting with Evans leads to the couple being invited to a yacht where a famous movie star (Arterton) is lounging on the deck, flustering Sandler to the point where he can't even remember his wife's name. Things quickly take a dark turn when someone stabs the yacht's owner (Stamp) with a hilariously giant knife. Enter a wacky Inspector Clouseau-like French detective (Dany Boon) who means to get to the bottom of the mystery while smoking a lot of cigarettes. Sandler and Aniston quickly find out they've been framed, and of course go on the run from the police, leading to some comedic chases and other hijinks.
All-in-all, the trailer seems to promise exactly what fans might expect from a pairing between Sandler and Aniston on Netflix: a lot of mild wackiness, some Judd Apatow-style middle-aged observational comedy and a little light action, with Sandler and Aniston both getting a chance to show off their well-honed comedic skills. The film definitely seems like a solid Netflix and chill movie for those who are looking for some untaxing entertainment featuring reassuringly familiar stars in a lightweight story.
Murder Mystery is set to hit Netflix on June 14, 2019.
