Nicki Aycox, best known for her role as Meg Masters on Supernatural, has died at age 47. Aycox introduced the character of Meg, a demon who would later become the angel Castiel's near love interest, in season 1. Aycox appeared throughout Supernatural seasons 1 and 2, until Meg left the body she was possessing. Meg would later return in season 4, when the role was played by Rachel Miner. Aycox also had roles on Criminal Minds, CSI: Miami, and starred in the 2005 war drama series Over There.

In a statement released on Facebook by Aycox's sister-in-law Susan Raab Ceklosky (via Variety), it was announced that Aycox had passed away on November 16, at the age of 47. Ceklosky says that Aycox passed away with her husband, Matt Raab, by her side. The post did not mention a cause of death. Read Ceklosky's announcement below, along with remembrance posts from Supernatural cast and crew members, below:

"My beautiful, smart, fierce, incredibly talented, and loving sister-in-law, Nicki Aycox Raab, passed away yesterday with my brother, Matt Raab, by her side. Nicki and Matt had a wonderful life together in California. She was definitely a fighter and everyone who knew her loved her."

Nicki Aycox's Impact on Supernatural

While there has been no official cause of death released, Aycox has been very open about her struggle with leukemia since she was first diagnosed with it in 2021. Aycox documented her struggle with chemotherapy on Instagram, and was very vocal about how difficult the cancer treatments had been on her body. Despite these struggles, however, Aycox was always very positive, optimistic, and lived a full and active life. In May 2021, Aycox posted a picture of herself in hospital, with a caption reading, "With cancer there are good days and bad days... Try to be grateful whenever I feel it, be gentle when I feel negatively."

Though Aycox left Supernatural after season 2, when Meg abandoned the body she'd been possessing, Aycox built the foundation for Meg's character to return in later seasons and to become a major part of the show. Though initially an antagonist, Meg would eventually side with Dean, Sam, and Castiel, and sacrificed herself to save the world in Supernatural season 8. While Miner appeared more frequently as Meg throughout the series, without Aycox's early portrayal, much of Supernatural would have been very different.

Since the news of Aycox's passing, fans have shown an outpouring of love and support for Aycox's family. Supernatural cast and crew remember her as a vibrant person and a talented actress, and fans applaud her portrayal of Meg even years after Aycox left the series. Aycox was not only a vital part of Supernatural, even several seasons after leaving it, but an inspiration to those battling illness, and she will be dearly missed.
