Last of Us TV Show Release Date Update Shared By HBO
HBO executive Casey Bloys offers a promising update on the expected The Last Of Us TV series release date. Set to star The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal and Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey, The Last Of Us has arguably earned the title of the most-anticipated upcoming TV series. With the source material, the highly successful video game franchise of the same name, having accrued a rather enormous fanbase over the years, many are excited to see beloved The Last of Us characters Joel and Ellie brought to life by Pascal and Ramsey, respectively.
Little is known about The Last Of Us' long-awaited adaptation, which, like the game, is set to follow Joel as he accompanies Ellie across an apocalyptic wasteland, with the pair coming across a variety of terrifying threats along the way. Despite very few official releases or teases having been shared so far, numerous photos and videos have emerged from the lengthy production, which have revealed glimpses at a number of scenes that looked to have been pulled directly from The Last Of Us games. With a budget that reportedly exceeds $10 million an episode, audiences are gearing up to see what the series will have in store for them.
Per THR, during a recent interview with Bloys, which sees the HBO head discussing a number of the network's upcoming projects, The Last of Us release date gets a much-needed update. When asked when audiences can expect the adaptation to arrive, Bloys shares that the release window is "closer to early 2023." Nothing more is revealed with regards to The Last Of Us and its current status, however, after it was confirmed to have entered post-production earlier this summer.
Prior to The Last Of Us officially wrapping, the show's release date had been widely speculated on, with many hoping to see the episodes air before the end of 2022. Earlier this year, however, Bloys confirmed that the series would not release in 2022, and this new update therefore offers a slightly narrower release window. With the recent release of a rare official The Last of Us image which showed Pascal and Ramsey in their exciting new roles, many are hoping that the coming months will see more exciting teases for the series.
After the news that The Last Of Us would not arrive in 2022 came as a major disappointment for many, this promising update from Bloys is likely to be incredibly well-received. News surrounding the show has been relatively quiet for the past few months, though with many having recently been delighted at the confirmation that original game stars Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker are set to have roles within the show, it appears this upcoming adaption could certainly have some worth-the-wait surprises up its sleeve.
