I'm going through Dragon Ball Z at the moment ― as the quintessential shonen anime series that captivated me since my youth, I often revisit it ever so often.
Indeed, one might be surprised, but the sci-fi elements have really held up, especially as I currently go through the Android / Jinzoningen (Artificial Humans) saga once more.
While we ― as a society ― still aren't close to creating anthropomorphic androids like Androids 16 and 19 capable of passing the Turing test, one could say that cyborgs (i.e. cybernetically-enhanced individuals) like Androids 17 and 18 are slightly more feasible once one takes into consideration MMIs (mind-machine interfaces) like Musk's Neuralink.
Moreover, I've always been fascinated by Cell ― an 'android' created via synthetic biology following the harvesting of the cells of the strongest warriors to obtain the requisite genes ― given my own background in recombinant biotechnologies and nanomedicine.
