Dune 2 casts Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot, a key character in the Dune saga. Based on Frank Herbert's best-selling science-fiction novel of the same name, Denis Villeneuve's Dune hit theaters last fall, earning rave reviews from both audiences and critics. The film chronicles the journey of Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet), who travels with his family to the dangerous desert planet of Arrakis in order to harness the planet's highly sought-after resource known as Spice.

Not long after the first film hit theaters, Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment confirmed that Dune 2 was in early development, with a release date set for the fall of 2023. Not much is known about the sequel just yet, but the first film left the story on a major cliffhanger, seeing Paul set out into the desert with a tribe of Fremon to an unknown fate. Villeneuve has been confirmed to return as director for Dune 2, with stars Chalamet and Zendaya also expected to return. While actors continue to be added to the cast of Dune 2, among those recently added to the sequel are Christopher Walken, Austin Butler, and Florence Pugh.

Per a new report from Variety, Seydoux is the latest actor to be cast in Dune 2, taking on the role of Lady Margot Fenring, a member of the Bene Gesserit. While the character's role in the upcoming movie remains shrouded in mystery, Lady Margot played a crucial role in the Dune book, warning Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) about the grim fate that awaits House Atreides on Arrakis. The role of Lady Margot's husband, Count Hasimir Fenring, has yet to be cast.

Although Seydoux has appeared in a number of leading and supporting roles since the early 2000s, the French actress will be best known to many American audiences for her recent turn as Madeleine Swann in No Time To Die. Seydoux most recently appeared in David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future opposite Viggo Mortensen, a movie that resulted in numerous walkouts at its premiere in Cannes. It remains to be seen how prominently Seydoux's Lady Margot will feature in Dune 2, but filming for the project is expected to get underway before the end of this summer.

Villeneuve made several changes from the source material for the first Dune movie, and it's entirely likely that the Lady Margot that features in Dune 2 will be different from the version that appears in the book. In fact, Lady Margot should already have appeared in the first Dune given the chronology of events depicted, but Villeneuve evidently made the decision to save the character for the sequel. It remains to be seen what surprises Dune 2 has in store for audiences, but, if nothing else, the sequel will boast an even more impressive cast than the first film, a cast that is likely to grow even more in the coming weeks and months.
