John Wick's Winston Arrives At The Continental In First Trailer For Prequel Show
The John Wick spinoff The Continental now has its first official trailer, revealing the return of Winston. The franchise began with the original 2014 action film John Wick, which followed a simple revenge tale when the titular ex-assassin (Keanu Reeves) was dragged back into the game when his dog was killed and his car was stolen. That film showed glimpses at a wide world of assassins on the fringes of society, including the mysterious hotel The Continental run by Winston (Ian McShane), which operates on a currency of gold coins and offers refuge to members of the community.
Today, Peacock unveiled the official trailer for the John Wick prequel series.
To the strains of the iconic disco tune "I Feel Love," the teaser shows brief glimpses at the activities of various assassins in 1970s New York before revealing an ominous shot of young Winston (Colin Woodell) arriving at the hotel. In addition to this teaser, Peacock also revealed that the series is set to premiere this September as well as sharing a brand new poster. Check out the artwork, which also features young Winston, below:
Everything We Know About The Continental
While the trailer doesn't reveal much about the plot of The Continental, the synopsis teases how important Winston will be to the series. He may be younger, but he still has a dark past, and the events of the series will inexorably drag him back into it. As part of his action-packed journey, he will work to rise to the top and take over the hotel itself, meaning that the international hotel chain may operate in an entirely different manner than the John Wick films when he arrives.
As shown briefly in the teaser, there is a huge new ensemble joining Woodell's Winston in the new series. This includes Mel Gibson (Cormac), Mishel Prada (KD), Ben Robson (Frankie), Hubert Point-Du Jour (Miles), Nhung Kate (Yen), Jessica Allain (Lou), Jeremy Bobb (Mayhew) and Peter Greene (Uncle Charlie). Ayomide Adegun will also be on hand as a young Charon, the character played by the late Lance Reddick in the original films.
The Continental will premiere as a three-part series when it arrives this September. With two episodes helmed by The Book of Eli director Albert Hughes and one by The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power's Charlotte Brändström, it is certain to combine lush worldbuilding with high-octane action. Though there is still a bit of a wait before its premiere, the fact that it's following March's John Wick: Chapter 4 so quickly shows how committed its producers are to keeping the flame of this blockbuster franchise alight.
