Idris Elba looks desperate to survive the menacing grasp of a monster in a preview image from the survival thriller Beast. After a surprising voiceover performance as antihero Knuckles in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and roles in other commercial blockbusters, Elba returns to the thriller genre and battles a ferocious lion in the South African savanna. The esteemed actor will play Dr. Nate Samuels, a recently-widowed father who takes his two young daughters to a game reserve owned by a friend, only to confront the savage animal.

As part of its Summer Movie Preview series, Fandango shares a new image of Elba in Beast. In it, Dr. Samuels sports a bloody wound from a massive claw on his left shoulder - undoubtedly from the beast of a lion the film is named after - while gripping a walkie-talkie and presumably radioing for help. One of his daughters, who are played by Leah Jeffries and Iyana Halley, looks terrified in the car next to him. Check out the new image from Beast below:

The survival thriller genre is a good fit for Elba, as seen in 2017's The Mountain Between Us and other films. His career began with roles in horror, crime, and war dramas before exploding into Hollywood blockbusters and big animated features. Elba has shown off his impressive range by also appearing in both the MCU and DCEU. However, Beast looks to be a grisly and emotional affair that will put Elba's physical acting skills to the test like never before.
