How The Flash’s Suit in Justice League Differs From the Comics
Ezra Miller confirms that the ring mechanism in the Flash’s suit will not be featured in Justice League. The actor who plays the DC Extended Universe’s embodiment of the Scarlet Speeder is gearing up to make his full feature film debut in two months with the arrival of the epic superhero blockbuster from Warner Bros. In the movie, he’ll team up with the rest of the League to protect the world from the imminent arrival of Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons in search of the powerful Mother Boxes scattered around the planet.
The Flash has been teased in other DCEU properties, including his brief introduction to Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman (and us) via Lex Luthor’s secret files in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. He then popped up in Suicide Squad when he foiled Captain Boomerang’s (Jai Courtney) jewelry thieving, although we do not know if this is foreshadowing of the two’s upcoming encounters in future DC films just like in the comic books. But before that even comes to fruition, Barry Allen will first be ushered into his brand new and world-saving gig.
Given that the Flash already has a long history in the comic books and a huge chunk of fans relentlessly supporting these superhero films are readers of the source material, Miller already wants to level out their expectations regarding his suit in Justice League. Talking to EW about his character’s debut in the DCEU ensemble flick, he explains why the ring, which is used to compress and conceal his costume while operating in his civilian identity, won’t be featured in the movie:

Well, you know, look, I can confirm, spoiler alert, his suit does not pop out of his ring [in the movie]. Things have to progress, you know? Original Barry Allen was clearly an incredibly, incredibly clever scientist. We acknowledge and respect that. We want to apologize to the fans who are mad about the ring thing.
Despite that, he teases that the ring may eventually make its debut in the films. Maybe not in Justice League, but given that this is just the character’s first full film appearance, there are still a lot of opportunities to use it in the future. In the meantime, fans should look forward to other bells and whistles that his suit can do, adding, “I know the ring is the coolest thing about the DC universe. It was a little hard for us to sell in this version of this universe right now. Bear with us! There’s gonna be other cool things.”
It only makes sense that DC is taking its time building up The Flash, especially when the character will eventually make his way to his own franchise starting with Flashpoint. Further, it would open up some narrative plot holes if Bruce finds a fully-fleshed out superhero complete with an outrageously high-tech suit when Justice League is basically establishing Barry as the “baby” of the group. This is very evident during his freak-out-scene in the Justice League trailer, wherein he says that he only really pushes people and runs away. Starting him with the most basic tech would allow him to have more opportunity to develop through the films, which in turn would draw fans to have more affinity to him instead of being presented as already a well-developed character.
