House Of The Dragon Season 2 Filming Begins With Detailed Iron Throne Image
House of the Dragon season 2 has begun filming, with the announcement being accompanied by a detailed picture of the Iron Throne. When House of the Dragon season 1 ended, Rhaenyra Targaryen's son, Lucerys Velaryon, was devoured by Aemond Targaryen's dragon Vhagar after Aemond lost control of the beast. The final scene of season 1 saw an angry, teary-eyed Rhaenyra receive word of her son's death, teasing the Dance of the Dragons in House of the Dragon season 2.
Now, a post from House of the Dragon on Twitter reveals that season 2 of the show is now in production, showing off the detailed back of the Iron Throne.
Season 2 of the critically-acclaimed Game of Thrones spinoff is expected to consist of 8 episodes, with a potential season 3 and season 4 on the horizon. For now, season 2 will showcase the first days of the Dance of the Dragons and the continuing conflict between Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower.
House Of The Dragon Season 2 Will See Civil War In Westeros
The Iron Throne is a fitting way to tease House of the Dragon season 2 because of its focus on the rightful ruler of Westeros. House of the Dragon season 1, episode 9 saw Alicent help her son with Viserys Targaryen, Aegon Targaryen, become ruler of the Seven Kingdom after misinterpreting Viserys' dying words. This action challenges Rhaenyra's place on the Throne, which was promised to her by her father long before his death.
While Rhaenyra was against the idea of going to war in season 1, episode 10, the final shot of her grieving, vengeful face following Lucerys' death indicates she won't forgive Aemond for killing her son. The tragic event will act as a major catalyst for the Dance of the Dragons, which itself will wage a blood-soaked war across Westeros. With season 2 possibly having only 8 episodes compared to season 1's 10-episode count, the series of events is likely to be tight and engaging throughout.
Viewers of Game of Thrones already know the Dance of the Dragons results in the deaths of all dragons in Westeros prior to Daenerys Targaryen's arrival.
