HBO Offers First Episode of Game of Thrones Behind the Scenes Series

HBO has unveiled the first installment in their exciting new Game of Thrones web-series, which offers viewers a new, extensive look behind-the-scenes of Thrones. The HBO smash hit fantasy series just concluded its seventh season this past Sunday night, which brought an appropriately large end to what turned out to be Game of Thrones‘ biggest season of television ever. Despite being shorter than any of its predecessors — with a total of 7 episodes, rather than the usual 10 — the show managed to not only bring together characters that fans had been waiting years to see come together, but delivered some of its biggest battles and set pieces to date.


While Game of Thrones‘ season 7 finale was the series’ longest episode ever, the episode itself was less bombastic than some fans might have expected going into it, especially considering the show’s penchant for delivering its biggest thrills in its final two episodes every season. But because Thrones had managed to (more or less) evenly spread out its spectacle-heavy moments and twists throughout the entirety of the season, it meant that the finale didn’t necessarily have to deliver on as many blockbuster-esque thrills, thanks to the build up of its previous six episodes.


With Game of Thrones now off the air until late next year at the earliest, HBO has unveiled a new short web-series called The Game Revealed, which should give fans at least some kind of new Thrones content to pour over in the coming weeks. Comprised of seven installments in total, each episode of the series will take fans behind-the-scenes into the making of each episode from its most recent seventh season — beginning with the Jeremy Podeswa-directed ‘Dragonstone’. In addition to being Game of Thrones‘ largest season to date from just a production standpoint, the season managed to repeatedly break some of the show’s previously established ratings records, which culminated in the season finale’s all-time high ratings this past Sunday night. Considering that this season of Thrones has also been subject to several unfortunate episode and script leaks — most of which were the work of a hacker group targeting HBO — the fact that the series still managed to deliver such high numbers is a testament to the dedicated fandom it’s developed over the years.


Now, Game of Thrones is heading into its eighth and final season, which will be comprised of six total episodes, and is already being set up as the show’s largest run to date. And while fans don’t know exactly how long they’ll have to wait before they can see that, The Game Revealed should act as a suitable companion piece to the show’s most recent season for those who go back and rewatch it, or for those who may look to it as some kind of new Thrones content to consume while anxiously awaiting the eighth season’s premiere.
