Halloween 2018 Plot Details & Trailer Revealed at CinemaCon
The first plot details for Halloween 2018 have been revealed after the first trailer premiered at CinemaCon. The new Halloween will be released in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise, which kickstarted the modern-day slasher trend. While the movie will be the 11th installment in the series, the story will ignore all prior entries besides the original. The film also marks the return of Jamie Lee Curtis to the franchise, reprising her iconic role as Laurie Strode.
The new Halloween is being directed by David Gordon Green, who co-wrote the script with Danny McBride. The two men are lifelong fans of the series, and while the decision to wipe the slate clean and ignore every other sequel was controversial with some fans, McBride has promised the movie will feature nods to every other Halloween movie.
Up till now, plot details for Halloween 2018 were vague, though it was known Laurie had a daughter and granddaughter, and she had to protect them once Michael reappeared. Now the first trailer has appeared at CinemaCon, with Curtis in attendance to introduce it, promising a ‘hella scary‘ movie. Writer Eric Vespe described some of the footage on Twitter, and the trailer reveals that Michael was captured shortly after Loomis shot him during the finale of Halloween, and he’s been locked up for the 40 years since:

Laurie has been preparing herself in case of Michael’s escape and is ready to kill him once and for all. The movie also confirms Michael and Laurie are no longer siblings, which was a plot twist revealed in 1981’s Halloween II:

There was a shot of Myers, post break-out, tormenting a girl in a bathroom stall. His hand goes over the door and drops a dozen bloody teeth on the floor. They're not messing around with this one. It's great to see the mask back in action.

Reaction to the trailer so far has been overwhelmingly positive, with many finding it atmospheric and creepy. The trailer also makes it clear the other Halloween sequels never happened, and that it’s charting a new course. It appears Laurie is now filling in the Loomis role from past sequels too – being the protector character who knows how dangerous Michael is and wants to stop him for good. Curtis revealed in a recent interview Halloween 2018 is very close in tone to the original, and it’s essentially the first film told from the perspective of Laurie’s granddaughter.
Michael Myers will be also be wearing the same mask he wore during the original in Halloween 2018, which has also aged 40 years. This plot device was used in Rob Zombie’s divisive 2007 Halloween remake, with Michael retrieving his old mask once he breaks out of the asylum to continue his bloody rampage.
