Godzilla 2 First Look Reveals Atomic Breath & Millie Bobby Brown
The first images from Warner Bros.' Godzilla: King of the Monsters shows the monster's atomic breathe and introduces Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown. With franchises and cinematic universe reigning supreme at the box office, WB is growing their monster world. Gareth Edwards rebooted Godzilla in 2014 with Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron-Taylor Johnson starring. The film was a critical and financial success, leading way to a sequel that will culminate with a massive Kong crossover.
Krampus director Michael Dougherty takes over in the same position for the Godzilla sequel and he isn't the only new addition. Brown is one of several new cast members, such as Vera Farmiga and Kyle Chandler. They will play a family caught up in the latest Godzilla-worthy event. And now we finally have a glimpse at the actual movie.
EW debuted the first two images from Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The first image stars the film's giant monster as he lights up the sky with his atomic breath. Dougherty teases this comes at a key point in the film that is "sort of call to arms." The second image shows the human leads of the movie, Brown and Farmiga, together. Farmiga is a scientist for Monarch and Brown plays her daughter, but they are kidnapped by a mysterious organization. See the photos below:
The image of Godzilla is visually striking thanks to his atomic breath. There's already a sense of style that Dougherty looks to bringing to the sequel. The call to arms tease is particularly enticing as it could signal a team up between the film's several monsters. King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan are scheduled to make appearances, allowing for Godzilla to further combat some foes prior to him meeting Kong - which the sequel will lay seeds towards.
As for the humans, this image finally offers up a look at Brown in a role that isn't Eleven. Godzilla 2 will be her first post-Stranger Things role and the pairing with Farmiga already has plenty of potential to succeed. While the two are kidnapped in the movie, hopefully they still are given enough to do on their own and aren't just waiting for Chandler to come and save them. If Farmiga can control the creatures as she's teased, then there's potential for a major role.
The release of these images comes just after it was announced that Godzilla: King of the Monsters will have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con. The film doesn't come out till next May so a trailer release is probably unlikely, but expect more details to drop at the convention. Should WB and Legendary surprise everyone and drop the trailer, than maybe we'll get to see Brown and Godzilla's atomic breath in action.
