The Gifted: Fox’s X-Men TV Show to Air on Mondays

Fox network has set its X-Men TV series The Gifted to air on Mondays in the 9 to 10 p.m. ET/PT time slot. It’s been an interesting past year for Twentieth Century Fox and its X-Men property, which got off to a rocky start last May with X-Men: Apocalypse, a decidedly underwhelming sequel to arguably one of the best films in the franchise with 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. Of course, Logan in March seemed to bring finality to the film series as far as the original X-Men and First Class cast members were concerned, so it only seemed natural for Fox to start the Marvel mutant saga over again with the upcoming film New Mutants and TV series The Gifted.

The Gifted, which was ordered to series by Fox in January, got its official time slot during the network’s TV upfronts presentation on Monday, along with the debut of the full trailer of the new series. Although no official premiere date was given, The Gifted will air on Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT, following Lucifer, which airs at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Bryan Singer, who directed X-Men, X2: X-Men United, Days of Future Past and Apocalypse, is directing the pilot episode and is an executive producer on the series. Along with the time slot, Fox released the official description of The Gifted:

“The drama tells the story of a suburban couple whose ordinary lives are rocked by the sudden discovery that their children possess mutant powers. Reed (Stephen Moyer) and Caitlin (Amy Acker) Strucker are typical middle-class parents dealing with the realities of raising a family. However, when their teenage kids, Lauren (Natalie Alyn Lind) and Andy (Percy Hynes White), are involved in an incident at their high school which reveals they are mutants, Reed and Caitlin do all in their power to protect their children. Forced to go on the run, the Struckers must leave behind their old lives to flee from a relentless government agency that tracks down mutants, the Sentinel Services, which includes Agent Jace Turner (Coby Bell).

“Complicating matters further is the fact that Reed is a prosecutor in the district attorney’s office tasked with going after mutants. Desperate and running low on options, the family’s only choice is to contact an underground network that helps mutants in trouble. The mutants in the network – Eclipse/Marcos Diaz (Sean Teale), Blink/Clarice Fong (Jamie Chung), Polaris/Lorna Dane (Emma Dumont) and Thunderbird/John Proudstar (Blair Redford) – are dealing with their own issues. With one of their members in prison and their team possibly compromised, they face an uncertain future in a world that looks increasingly dangerous for mutants.”

The official description will no doubt help fans fill in the blanks from questions they had about The Gifted trailer, which gives a promising look at new series. The quality of the feature films certainly appears to be there in terms of atmosphere and visual effects, and with longtime X-Men filmmakers Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg serving as two of the series’ executive producers along with Singer, fans can be assured that watchful these eyes will demand compelling stories. Topping it all off, of course, will be a cameo by Marvel icon Stan Lee – which Singer confirmed last month – that fans will likely get in the pilot episode.
