Game of Thrones: Why Melisandre Is More Powerful Than You Thought
HBO's hit series Game of Thrones features a massive cast full of complex and powerful characters, and here's why Melisandre is even more powerful than you may have realized. Melisandre didn't appear in the show until season 2, where she was introduced as one of the Red Priestesses who worshipped R'hllor aka the Lord of Light. Through her faith, she has special magic abilities that have been used time and time again on Game of Thrones.
With the series largely focusing on Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, Arya and Sansa Stark, and the Lannister children Tyrion, Cersei, and Jaime, it has been easy for characters like Melisandre to get lost the grand story at hand. She has usually been close by though, as she served as an advisor for Stannis Baratheon and then helped bring Jon back from the dead and worked him in for some time after. Through the entirety of her story on Game of Thrones, the power that Melisandre displayed is quite remarkable.

One of her biggest moments was the aforementioned resurrection of Jon Snow at the beginning of season 6, but she has done much more than that in the seasons before and even after. It didn't take very long for Game of Thrones to show the range of power that Melisandre has, with her giving birth to a demon baby being one of the early surprises for her character. She also wears an enchanted necklace at almost all times (except for when she sleeps), which appears to have given her prolonged life and makes her look much younger. But, when Melisandre takes off this necklace following the Battle of Winterfell in season 8, her older state is revealed and she dies in the snow.
Melisandre's abilities go well beyond those examples though, as she's also able to see prophetic versions of the future. While these can be misinterpreted from time to time, that was not the case with a prophecy she had about Arya's future. Melisandre previously predicted that Arya would kill someone with brown eyes, green eyes, and blue eyes. Arya killing the brown-eyed Frey family completed the first task, and then she killed the blue-eyed Night King in season 8. That just leaves a green-eyed individual for Arya to kill in the series finale of Game of Thrones to complete Melisandre's prophecy, and as long as that happens, then this will just further show the power that the Red Woman possessed.
