Game of Thrones alumnus, Pilou Asbæk, has been cast in a key role in the upcoming adaptation of Salem’s Lot. Based on the 1975 horror novel by the master of the macabre, Stephen King, Salem’s Lot follows the story of author Ben Mears who returns to his childhood hometown only to discover that its residents are being turned into vampires. Over the years, King’s second novel has been adapted twice for television and was also as a radio drama that aired in the United Kingdom.

THR has now reported that Asbæk, who is best known for playing the villainous Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones, is set to star in Salem's Lot opposite Lewis Pullman, who is playing the film’s protagonist, Ben Mears. Asbæk will be channeling his proven skills at portraying nefarious characters by tackling the role of Richard Straker, a Satanist and familiar who prepares for the arrival of his vampiric master, Kurt Barlow. As of yet, the actor set to play Barlow in this latest adaptation has yet to be officially revealed, though The Blacklist’s William Sadler has already been cast in an unknown role.

Written and directed by Annabelle and It screenwriter, Gary Dauberman, this latest Stephen King adaptation is just the latest in a long list of remakes and reboots based on the best-selling author’s works. With a Firestarter remake and a Pet Sematary prequel also currently in active development, fans of King’s twisted worlds have plenty to keep them glued to their screens in the near future. Salem’s Lot is currently scheduled to hit theaters on September 9th, 2022.
