Everything We Know About Mad Max's Furiosa Prequel Movie
Here's everything you need to know about George Miller's Mad Max: Furiosa movie. The Mad Max: Fury Road prequel will focus on the origins of Charlize Theron's Imperator Furiosa character. The critically acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road was released in 2015, and was the fourth installment in George Miller's Mad Max universe.
The origins of Imperator Furiosa are not fully revealed in Mad Max: Fury Road although Miller and co-writer Nick Lathouris developed full back stories for every character. Furiosa is a war captain working for leader Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne) but betrays him to free Joe's concubines, and forms and alliance with Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy).
Mad Max: Furiosa is confirmed to be in development, although production hasn't started. And while Max is the title character in Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa is the de facto protagonist, and the movie centers around their relationship. Mad Max: Furiosa will be directed by George Miller, who is co-writing and producing with his longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell.
Mad Max: Furiosa Is In Development
George Miller confirmed that the fifth Mad Max movie will be a Furiosa prequel. Miller wrote the script with Mad Max: Fury Road co-writer Nick Lathouris, and is reuniting his Oscar-award winning creative team: production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, sound mixer Ben Osmo, and makeup artist Lesley Vanderwalt. The script for Mad Max: Furiosa was developed as part of the creative process for Mad Max: Fury Road, but the project, as well as a Mad Max: Fury Road sequel, has been held for due to a pay dispute, and subsequent lawsuit, between George Miller and Warner Brothers.
Mad Max: Furiosa Release Date
Mad Max: Furiosa does not yet have a release date, but Miller stated that production on the film will begin when shooting is complete on his project Three Thousand Years of Longing. That movie stars Idris Elba and Tilda Swinton and was scheduled to start filming in March 2020, but production has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. Mad Max: Furiosa will likely start production in 2021, taking all things into account.
Mad Max: Furiosa Cast
Anya Taylor-Joy will be taking over the part of Imperator Furiosa from Charlize Theron, after George Miller announced that Theron would not be reprising her role. Taylor-Joy previously appeared in Emma and Glass., as well as the long-delayed New Mutants. Chris Hemsworth (Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, Watchmen) are also joining the cast in undisclosed roles.
Mad Max: Furiosa Story Details
Mad Max: Furiosa will likely explore Furiosa's early life in her idyllic childhood home, known only as the "Green Place," which is an uninhabitable swampland by the events of Mad Max: Fury Road. Mad Max: Furiosa will likely also explore her experiences with the Vuvalini warrior women, who recognized Furiosa as one of their own; Furiosa was kidnapped and taken from them as a child, and she spent her life trying to return to the Green Place.
