Amazon Prime Video has become one of the major players in the streaming wars, with major hits ranging from The Boys to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. In addition to the original series coming to the service, it has also ventured into original movies with big-budget efforts like The Tomorrow War. Like other streaming services, Amazon is constantly looking for new hits, hoping its slate of new titles will catch the public's eye.

Amazon's fall offerings contain a mixture of programming, ranging from political documentaries to a young-adult horror series. All of Amazon's original TV shows and movies premiere early in the morning on a Friday, with the intent of being available to watch and binge over the weekend. The service has already had success this fall with the recently released viral documentary series LuLaRich.

In addition to the series listed below, Amazon will stream the fourth and final season of Billy Bob Thornton-led legal drama Goliath, and continue its expansion into international media with titles like Back to the Rafters, a revival of an Australian sitcom, and the Hindi biopic Sardar Udham Singh. Amazon will also be adding new items to its catalog of licensed movies and TV shows in October and November. The following titles are the most promising or intriguing original titles coming to Prime Video.

Uprising - September 17

Oscar-winning director Steve McQueen follows up his acclaimed Small Axe anthology series, which also streamed on Amazon, with a three-part documentary series about a wave of Black protests and political action in 1981 Britain. The series was broadcast on the BBC this summer. The series is being paired with two documentaries produced by McQueen also dealing with race in the UK, Subnormal and Black Power, which hope to further develop the themes in the five Small Axe movies.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie - September 17

Everybody's Talking About Jamie is a film adaptation of a successful London stage musical. Max Harwood stars as the eponymous Jamie, a teenage drag queen, with Richard E. Grant and Sharon Horgan co-starring. The movie has had a long road towards release, originally set to be a 2020 theatrical release from 20th Century Studios before Amazon acquired it. Time will tell whether everyone does indeed talk about Jamie, but early reviews are largely positive.

Birds Of Paradise - September 24

Another Amazon original movie, Birds of Paradise is an adaptation of A. K. Small's novel Burning Bright Stars about aspiring ballerinas attending school in Paris. Conflict arises when friends Marine and Kate compete for a conflict to join the Paris National Opera. Movies like Black Swan have depicted how brutal competition can be in the ballet world, so there's plenty of potential for drama.

All Or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs - October 1

Amazon's All or Nothing series has been running since 2015 covering American football, soccer, rugby union, and now hockey, with each season providing an intimate look into the life of a different team over the course of a season. The upcoming season will feature the popular Toronto Maple Leafs playing a season almost entirely in empty arenas. Leafs fans may look forward to getting a more personal look at stars like Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, while other hockey fans might want to see what happens behind the scenes as the Leafs lose a 3-1 series lead against their rivals Montreal.

My Name Is Pauli Murray - October 1

Amazon's library of LGBTQ+ content will expand this fall with My Name is Pauli Murray, a documentary about the pioneering nonbinary Black lawyer. Murray was an influential figure who campaigned against discrimination and was a mentor to Ruth Bader Ginsberg and Thurgood Marshall. The documentary is directed by Betsy West and Julie Cohen, who also helmed the Oscar-nominated RBG.

Welcome To The Blumhouse - October 1

October is the biggest month of the year for horror movies, and Prime Video aims to quench fans' thirst for blood and scares through a collaboration with Blumhouse Studios, known for their low-budget, high-concept thrillers. Welcome to the Blumhouse is a series of streaming movies that began last year, and 2021 will bring four new self-contained movies. Bingo Hell and Black as Night will premiere on October 1, with Madres and The Manor debuting the following Friday. The Prime originals are just part of a busy slate that includes Blumhouse's upcoming Exorcist sequels.

Justin Bieber: Our World - October 8

Following in the footsteps of Prime Video documentary on musical acts ranging from Coldplay to Pink, Justin Bieber: Our World will present a detailed look at the extremely popular (and extremely polarizing) star. The documentary feature was filmed in the lead-up to Bieber's first concert in three years, a live-streamed rooftop show on New Year's Eve 2020. The movie is directed by Michael D. Ratner, whose previous project was the similarly intimate Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil.

I Know What You Did Last Summer - October 15

While the title may be familiar from the 1997 slasher hit, the upcoming Amazon series is a more direct adaptation of the 1973 novel that the movie was based on and joins the wealth of horror TV premiering in fall 2021. Like the original, the streaming version of I Know What You Did Last Summer sees a group of teenagers stalked by a killer while trying to hide the dark events of their graduation night. The first four episodes will drop on the 15th with the remainder airing weekly.

The Wheel Of Time - November 19

The Wheel of Time is one of Amazon Prime Video's most ambitious projects, being an epic adaptation of Robert Jordan's sprawling series of fantasy novels. The story features a richly developed world with a deep cast of characters. At the core is a trio of young boys from a small village who are prophecied to have a role in a battle for the fate of the world. Amazon has already renewed the series for a second reason, with plans for several more fully adapting Jordan's Wheel of Time saga should it find an audience.

Prime Video also has a number of TV shows and movies scheduled simply for "2021", meaning that they could also be released in the fall. These include adult animated comedy Fairfax and biographical soccer series Maradona: Blessed Dream. Expect more announcements as Amazon Prime Video fills up its release schedule for late October and November.
