Even Tom Holland Believed A Spoof Article Saying He Leaked Avengers 4 Online
Because if anyone is likely to accidentally leak Avengers: Endgame online ... it's Mark Ruffalo. But also "Spoiler-Man" Tom Holland. Holland has such a bad reputation for leaking Marvel spoilers that even he was fooled by a fake headline claiming he uploaded the entire Avengers 4 movie online.
How would he even do that? The movie is currently in reshoots and not available to be uploaded. And who would ever give Tom Holland an upload for the movie on his best day? Never mind the details, though, 'cause it sounds like Peter Parker's heart skipped a beat when he saw this spoof on a fan site:
You see that reply? It's believable because Tom Holland has done stuff like this before. You can imagine his face reading the headline, stressing out over whether it could be true. Holland has shared Marvel spoilers before -- sometimes stopped at the right time by Benedict Cumberbatch -- and he even managed to spoil the script for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom to Chris Pratt, the star of the movie, before Pratt could read it. Amazing.
The only other person better at spoiling movie secrets is Mark Ruffalo. The Hulk actor actually live-streamed the start of Thor: Ragnarok from his phone during a screening. He also spoiled the ending of Avengers: Infinity War during an interview with co-star Don Cheadle, and now Cheadle doesn't want to do press with Ruffalo anymore. Not everyone is willing to chaperone these loose-lipped fellas!
Brie Larson, who just joined this world as Captain Marvel, came up with her own system so she wouldn't accidentally leak MCU spoilers. It has become a running joke about Tom Holland and Mark Ruffalo. Holland has even leaned into the joke, "accidentally" revealing the title of his second solo movie as Spider-Man: Far From Home. Fans turned to him again when they wanted to see the first trailer, hoping he could leak it online. Sony just did that for him earlier this week, and Holland thanked fans for helping the trailer reach a new viewing record for the studio.
Honestly, though, Tom Holland deserves credit for keeping so many Endgame/Far From Home secrets to this point. It will be fun to watch him on the promotion circuit -- presumably paired with Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch again -- playing the role of Spoiler-Man.
In reality, there's a lot he could have told us about Avengers: Endgame and how it will or will not explain how Peter Parker could be snapped at the end of Avengers: Infinity War and yet still return with his own sequel in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Will there be an unsnap? Will that bus theory on the timeline pan out?
Fans are on standby for another Avengers: Endgame trailer, which may or may not give us any answers. More likely, it will give us more questions -- or just straight up misdirect us with clips that aren't even in the final movie. Considering at least three Avengers 4 stars just went back for more reshoots, it's clearly too soon to know exactly what the Russo Brothers have planned for the Endgame.
Captain Marvel will soon launch the 2019 MCU party on March 8. Avengers: Endgame will follow close behind on April 26. And Tom Holland will close out the MCU's year with the Sony-Marvel movie Spider-Man: Far From Home on July 5.
